Who is the skipper on Fast-Boat? Malcolm is the owner of Fast-Boat Charter and he's also your skipper. Find out more about Malcolm | here ... |
Can we choose where we explore by sea? Yes. It's a private charter. You choose where to go, where to stop, how long to spend in any one place - subject to weather, tide, and daylight.
What should I wear? Even in high summer it can be chilly travelling at 30 knots over the water. Wear several thin layers, a fleece, and a waterproof jacket, wooly hat and gloves. Waterproof trousers are a good idea but not essential. The waterproof overalls that we provide go over your own waterproofs to make sure you keep warm and dry.
What should I wear on my feet? Wellies are ideal but any waterproof, rubber-soled walking boots will be fine.
What sort of waterproof clothing do you provide? We provide waterproof overalls for everyone on board. They are like a waterproof boiler-suit and are made from Flexothane - a lightweight, stretchy fabric that is very comfortable to wear. The overalls are worn over your own waterproofs to make sure that you keep warm and dry.
How fit do I have to be? You don't have to be fit but you do have to be reasonably agile to climb in and out of the boat.
Is lunch included in the prices on the website? No. The prices shown are for boat, skipper and fuel only. You're welcome to bring your own picnic, or we can organise one for you, or we can make sure that you arrive at a shoreside pub or restaurant at the right time of day.
I'm travelling alone. Can I charter Fast-Boat? Yes. Solo explorers are very welcome.
We can't afford a charter for just two of us. Can we join someone else's group? Fast-Boat operates private charters - you have the boat and skipper to yourself, but if you want to share your adventure try leaving a message on our | Share a Charter | page, or call Malcolm on 0845 224 2219 and he'll try to put you in touch with like-minded explorers.
Can we charter Fast-Boat for an expedition? Yes. If you want to spend several days exploring (e.g. circumnavigating the Outer Hebrides) give Malcolm a call on 0845 224 2219.
Can we carry our kayaks on Fast-Boat? Yes. Fast-Boat can carry two sea-kayaks on board. Weather permitting another two kayaks can be towed alongside.
Can we go to St. Kilda on Fast-Boat? No. St. Kilda is out of range. Our licence restricts us to within 20 miles of a safe haven.
Can we pay by cheque? No. Cash payments on the day are preferred. Advance payments can be made by debit/credit card via Paypal (free if you have a Paypal account, otherwise there will be a 3.5% surcharge to cover the processing fees).
What sort of boat is Fast-Boat? Fast-Boat is a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) similar to an inshore lifeboat. Fast and safe, this type of boat is ideal for exploring the coastline and crossing open water in any weather.
How fast does the boat go? Up to 35 knots (40mph). We cruise at between 20 and 30 knots.
